Creativity. Creativity is a theme in Chevalier’s novel Girl with a Pearl Earring. It’s a major part of the bond that draws Griet and Vermeer together. Even at the beginning of the novel, when Griet is uneducated and has had little exposure to art, she has an instinctive sensitivity to colors and design. In Vermeer’s painting, one wonders if his ultimate goal was to produce a tronie that reflected one moment in time, so that onlookers could create their own creative stories about the subject.
